  • Once a week is the typical recommendation for counseling. However, some people can benefit from a little more or a little less. We work with our client’s schedule and availability to ensure consistency in treatment. Individual clients typically weekly to start and then move to every other week. You & Me + Therapy requires that clients in couples therapy commit to weekly sessions until they reach their goals and move into maintenance sessions. Some clients may need emergency sessions in-between their scheduled session times. This can be arranged by contacting the clinician and booking the extra appointment.

  • It depends. There are many variables that impact how long it will take for therapy to be successful in your life. Clients typically start to see noticeable changes after 8 to 12 sessions. However, it often takes more sessions for clients to see a full transformation. On average, at You & Me + Therapy, individual clients stay in therapy for about 6 to 18 months and couples stay in therapy for about 4 to 12 months. However, every client is different. Some clients may need a little bit more time and some clients may need less time.

  • Our practice has a 48-hour cancelation policy. After that point, you will be charged for your booked session. However, we allow for makeup sessions within the same week of the original appointment if there are any spots available and as long as the clinician has been notified before the start of the original session.

  • While individual counseling and couples counseling can be beneficial at the same time, You & Me + Therapy does not currently offer both at the same time due to only having one clinician at this time. It is outside of the ethical guidelines that You & Me + Therapy follows for a therapist to see both an individual partner and a couple at the same time. However, we are looking to expand and add more clinicians so that it will be possible for clients to do both. In the meantime, We can work with either the partner or the couple and provide referrals to other great therapists in the area.

  • It is not uncommon for a partner to be resistant to therapy. After all, it is a big commitment to address challenging problems in the relationship with a stranger. We encouraged couples to commit to at least a couple of sessions to see how they feel.

Often partners are worried that they will be condemned the entire session. However, You & Me + Therapy sees partners as humans who need to learn new ways to care for each other. We are not here to side with one or the other partner. Often, couples are trapped in a negative reaction cycle based on some of their deepest and unconscious fears. Usually, these fears were created in childhood before the partners met each other.

If your partner is still resistant to therapy after some encouragement, it is not uncommon for one partner to seek individual therapy. This can still be very helpful to get clarity about your relationship, your partner, and yourself and learn some tools to improve your relationship.
